Charges have been filed against a man who allowed his 9-year-old son to drive his Ferrari for his ninth birthday according to police in the southern Indian state of Kerala.

Mohammed Nisham was charged with endangering the life of a child and allowing a minor to drive according to inspector M.V. Verghese.

Nisham's wife filmed the boy driving the vehicle on his birthday two weeks ago as his 7-year-old brother sat in the passenger seat. The video went viral and caused an outrage in India.

The video was eventually seen by the police, who decided to file charges.

"I am proud of him. He's been driving since he was 5," said his mother, Amal Nisham according to the Associated Press.

Verghese said the boy's father, who owns a tobacco and real estate business, owns 18 different cars worth an estimated $4 million.

Nisham turned himself in at the police station near his home and posted the $92 bail. Police are expected to impound the Ferrari as the case is ongoing.

The boy's mother also said he's driven the family's Bently, Lamborghini, and other vehicles that they own.

"It was his ninth birthday, and since he was insisting for months, we allowed him to drive the Ferrari. He is a cautious and confident driver," Nisham told television channel NDTV.

"It's not easy for a child to achieve such a feat at this young age," Nisham added.
