Honda Recalls 46,000 Fit Sports Models Over Stability Control Issues

Honda is recalling approximately 46,000 Fit Sport small cars in North America to fix an issue with the electronic stability control system.

The recall reportedly affects 43,782 vehicles from the 2012 to 2013 model years according to the Associated Press. Another 2,000 vehicles will be recalled in Canada.

The defect was found during government testing of models with a specific type of tires which could allow the vehicle to drive more quickly around tight turns. The defective stability control may not recognize this in time to prevent the vehicle from skidding.

The company stated after the recall was announced that they're unaware of any crashes or injuries occurring due to the issue.

Honda dealers will update the system software in the vehicle free of charge according to the Associated Press.

Owners will start reviving notification in mid-May, but are encouraged to bring their vehicle to a Honda dealer before then to have it inspected.

Owners with further questions can call Honda at 1-800-999-1009 for more details.

Shares of Honda closed Friday at $40.39 and were inactive in pre-market trading.
