Empire State Building Fall: Tourist Survives Drop After Landing on Catwalk (PHOTOS)

A tourist tried to jump from the Empire State Building this week but only made it down one floor according to the NYPD.

Nathaniel Fimone, 33, climbed over a security fence on the observation deck on the 86 th floor at approximately 11:30 p.m. and leaped off. His plan was foiled however as he landed on the catwalk below on the 85 th floor according to The New York Times.

An eyewitness who spoke to the New York Daily News reported that Fimone swung his legs in the air once he was on the catwalk as if he was going to try jumping again.

"He was in his own world, like he was lost," Argentinean tourist Luis Ariel Jofre said according to the New York Daily News. "He was calm looking down, like it was nothing, but it was 80 stories high."

After being escorted away from the building and past "shocked" tourists by emergency service officers, Fimone was taken to Bellevue Hospital for treatment under police custody.

He reportedly suffered a broken ankle and had cuts all over his hands.

Fimone now faces charges of reckless endangerment, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct, according to New York Police Department Detective Mark Nell who spoke with ABC News.

The jumper's official intentions were not confirmed by police as of press time.
