‘StarCraft’ And ‘StarCraft: Brood War’ Legally Free For PC, Mac As Blizzard Plans On Launching Remastered Version Soon

"StarCraft" and "StarCraft: Brood War" are now FREE, legally. After nearly 2 decades since its initial release, Blizzard's military science fiction action-adventure game is up for grabs for any player who has always wanted it. And it is available for download for both PC and Mac.

Patch 1.18 has recently been released by Blizzard. In it are fixes and of course an announcement: "StarCraft and StarCraft: Brood War are now free. Follow the links here to begin installing." The game's official Twitter page also posted a message clear as daylight that the game is indeed free for all.

The game originally cost around $10 to $15 including its expansion. Now, almost 20 years later, you can check out the game without spending a dime.

Blizzard has also announced that they have improved the anti-cheat system of "StarCraft" and have "improved compatibility" with Windows 7, 8.1, and 10. And also, they fixed long-lasting bugs.

Other significant improvements included in Patch 1.18 are an additional windowed fullscreen or windowed mode, the use of Alt+Enter to switch between, and addition of UTF-8 support, cursor clamping in-game while windowed and unclamped in menus, Popular Maps to streamline finding games or game types, options to display actions per minute, Observer mode, and opponent information when joining a game lobby.

Of course, you would wonder why Blizzard decided to unleash the game out for free. This is because of a remastered version, in the form of "StarCraft: Remastered," is about to be launched in a few months.

So, what better way to gather up new fans and players than to give them a taste of the original game. And "StarCraft: Remastered" will certainly be a graphical overhaul compared with the 1998 RTS classic game. You can check out the announcement of the remastered version in the video below.

To download "StarCraft" and "StarCraft: Brood War," you can check out the game's official website and click the links indicated. So, what are you waiting for?
