Ford Motor offers more police vehicles in the United States than any other automaker. The company revealed that it would offer a police pursuit version of the hybrid Fusion midsize sedan, in response to the long demand from cities nationwide. The 2018 Ford Police Responder Hybrid Sedan is the first pursuit-rated hybrid police car, and it will also save law enforcement thousands of dollars in fuel costs alone.
Ford is the leading provider of police vehicles in the U.S. with a 63 percent market share. With Ford's new Pursuit Police Hybrid Sedan, it will provide customers with EV's that are not only efficient, but at the same time, it will be more capable when it comes to productivity and performance.
The 2018 Ford Police Responder Hybrid Sedan is powered by a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle engine and an electric motor that runs on a 1.4-kilowatt lithium-ion battery. The automaker's hybrid technology will allow the vehicle to provide an estimated mileage of 38 miles per gallon for combined driving.
In addition, the new Hybrid Sedan will also save up to $3,877 in fuel cost each year. Aside from helping the environment by reducing emissions, police officers won't have to waste their time on duty having to refuel the vehicle.
The car can run up to 60 mph in battery mode only, but it can easily switch to maximum performance when both the engine and battery is being used. The vehicle is also designed for durability so it can easily run at different speeds, course through flooded intersections and can take on tough obstacles.
Upgrades include brakes that are an inch bigger up front with heavy-duty pads, a half inch taller suspension for better climbing over curbs, beefier shocks and springs, a stripped out interior with no center console, an underbody shield, and a more durable upholstery.
Furthermore, Ford also revealed that their new 2018 Ford Police Responder Hybrid Sedan can turn its gas engine off while idling. It may be the biggest advantage since police cars are usually left running during an entire shift. The vehicle will likely go on sale this spring and will be set for delivery next summer.
