Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan Concept Unveiled At 2017 Shanghai Auto Show: New Look Of German Automaker

Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan Concept was finally previewed at the 2017 Shanghai Auto Show. This specific design heralds the new look that the automaker is aiming for, featuring the Panamericana grille design, which has recently been hailed as the new face of Mercedes-AMG.

It seems despite the existence of the CLA, the German automaker sees that a second more practical sedan is needed for its compact car family. "Our concept A Sedan shows that the time of creases is over," says Gorden Wagener, Design Boss for Mercedes.

He added, "With its perfect proportions and a sensual treatment of surfaces with reduced lines, it is the next milestone of Sensual Purity and has the potential to introduce a new design era." This is an outlook into the next generation of the automaker's compact vehicles with its new potential body type.

Retaining its coupe-like silhouette, Concept A measures 4570mm long, 1870mm wide, and 1462mm high. Basically, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan Concept is similar in size to the CLA. But it should be much roomier thanks to its longer and flatter roof and its cab-forward design.

The A-Class Sedan Concept also has a more vertical C-pillar, comes with larger side windows, and shorter overhangs. Its 20-inch wheels fill the tough-looking wheel arch design.

Exterior rear-view mirrors standing on the sedan's belt line and flush door handles complete the look. Up front, the iconic deep Panamerican grille design has been titled forward complete with vertical inserts and that signature star in the center. There are also stretched power domes in its bonnet.

The Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan Concept features a special UV paint coating on its grid structure. And its headlights mirror conventional current Mercedes-Benz design DNA, resulting in headlights emitting different colors depending on which light is on them.

Also, this concept will come with the latest in the innovative assistance systems, driving dynamics, and connectivity. The production version of the A-Class Sedan Concept will likely be called the A-Class, while there could be a more rugged, G-Class inspired SUV.  Plus, there will also be B, CLA, CLA Shooting Brake, and GLA options in the same basic segment.

The first batch of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan Concept, which is the A-Class hatch, is due for a late 2017 reveal date. However, it is still unclear when these will arrive in dealerships or if these new vehicles will even arrive on US soil.
