Next-Generation Nissan Frontier Will Stick To Its ‘Truck’ Roots

At this year's New York Auto Show, Japanese automaker Nissan promised that the company's flagship truck, the Nissan Frontier, will remain true to its roots. Much of the Frontier's contemporaries have undergone quite a facelift as of late, but Nissan confirmed that the Frontier will remain a true truck for the years to come.

In a roundtable discussion at the New York Auto Show, Nissan senior vice president for North America Christian Meunier told AutoGuide, The Frontier has a future. Trucks are in our DNA, we've been doing them for a long time."

There are some speculations claiming that the next-generation Frontier will be a rebranded Navara, the mid-size truck that Nissan sells overseas. Mr. Meunier dismissed this allegation claiming that Nissan has a different roadmap for both trucks.

The current-generation Nissan Frontier is still based on the same platform that was introduced in 2005. The Nissan Navara is built on a completely new platform which many believe will be the same underpinning of the upcoming Frontier model.

The next-generation Nissan Frontier will stick to its roots, which is the pickup truck segment. The Frontier will target the market which is currently dominated by trucks from Toyota, Honda, and General Motors. Despite this rather crowded market, Nissan is optimistic that the Frontier will be able to carve a piece of it.

It is important to note that Renault-Nissan has acquired Mitsubishi. Many market analysts are expecting Nissan to incorporate some of Mitsubishi's truck expertise into some of the company's truck models. Mitsubishi have a storied history in this particular segment of the market. With two formidable companies pooling their resources together, they could potentially create a particular model that can best some of the best competitors in the market.
