The 2018 BMW X5 has been spied while testing on the snowy Arctic Circle. The luxury SUV looks tougher as it drifts and halts on the slippery road. Unfortunately, no new design information can be reported as the mule was still heavily camouflaged.
The 2018 BMW X5 was spotted circling around the Arctic Circle while undergoing performance test. The spy video reveals the driver was making various tests as the mule can be seen drifting and making a sudden halt. There were several rounds of drifting around snowy roads which hint that the engineers were checking the model's capacity to perform on slippery roads.
The spied mule does not unveil new details in terms of its appearance. The prototype appears exactly the same as the previously spotted mule, with the same areas in camouflage.
As of this time, the interiors and new designs are still heavily covered. Only the shape and few details can be predicted on the spotted mule.
The 2018 BMW X5 seems to sport a more intricate design on the front section. Only small portions of the front fascia were not covered which hint that this section will have a lot of revisions. New designs on the headlights and fog lamp can be expected.
At the rear section, a refreshed design can be spotted. The new X5 seems to have a gorgeous blend of the exhaust pipes with the bumper.
Furthermore, its form at the back seems to have been revised as well. The back arch looks a little more coupe-like.
The 2018 BMW X5 will slightly increase in size but not in weight. Reports say that the new X5 will take the brand's CLAR platform, which is also found on the current model and the 7 series. This new platform will slice off a significant amount of weight from the upcoming luxury SUV.
Meanwhile, the 2017 BMW X5 has proven its edge in terms of safety features. The current model has earned superior scores from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, while the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has given the model a five-star rating.
The upcoming 2018 BMW X5 is highly expected to arrive with more improved safety features as well. The brand has not confirmed the launch date of the new model but it is expected to debut before the year ends.
