1,000-Horsepower Lucid Air Electric Vehicle Hits 217MPH

When Lucid Motors announced that the company is working on an electric vehicle that packs 1,000-horsepower, it sparked major discussions on the motoring community as to how the company can put this into reality. The Lucid Air electric vehicle is currently in display at the New York Motor Show, and Lucid also revealed a new video highlighting the car on track running at 217Mph.

The Lucid Air electric car, going by the company's promises, is a brilliant piece of engineering. The battery pack that powers the car is developed in-house using a new cell chemistry technology which Lucid Motors co-developed with Samsung SDI. The battery has a 100kWh capacity which can be upgraded to a 130kWh pack which promises a driving range of 400 miles.

Lucid Motors is also building its own electric powertrain, and this is the centerpiece technology of the Lucid Air. In a statement acquired by Auto Blog, Lucid Motors chief executive officer Peter Rawlinson said, "What's really revolutionary about this product is that it's a car that is smaller on the outside and bigger on the inside. And I don't mean just a little bit... it's really transformative."

Aside from its all-electric powertrain, Lucid Air also packs high-end tech features. The electric car is expected to support Level 4 and Level 5 autonomous driving.

As part of its marketing strategy, a video of the Lucid Air taking the 7.5 mile track in Ohio was recently released. The car was limited to a maximum speed of 217mph and Lucid Motors said that the data gathered during the test will be used to further improve the car. The company is also planning to test the car running on a much higher speeds later this year.
