Kia Announced The Release Of An All Electric Version Of Stonic And Niro In 2018

Kia announced that it will be releasing the all-electric 2018 Kia Stonic, one of the most sought after upcoming car in the market right now in 2018. Aside from that, the company will also release an all-electric and plug-in hybrid version of the Kia Niro next year.

The company has been targeting SUVs and CUVS rather than sedans. It could be remembered that last year Kia sold more Niro than Ioniq since small SUVs and CUVs continue to be in-demand in the market.

"The small SUVs trend continues to be in the eco-friendly car market, so we decided to concentrate on the electric car in the form of CUV. The small SUV has a large interior space and gained popularity not only in Korea but also in global markets," a company representative explained.

The 2018 Kia Stonic is an urban SUB type long-distance electric car that has one of the best mileage and performance. It has an 88kW electric motor that has a big battery that has a range of 300 km, which is around 44 kWh.

"We already know that the Hyundai IONIQ EV will get a bigger battery capacity next year, this makes me think that the Hyundai IONIQ EV, Niro EV, and the Stonic EV will share the same 44/46 kWh battery in 2018 - that Hyundai says that will improve the IONIQ EV's range to 200 EPA miles (322 km)," the representative added.

As for Kia Niro, it has been previously reported that Kia is also planning to launch a brand new version of the car next year. The car will have similar powertrain to the 2017 Hyundai Ioniq Electric but it would not be released until its plug-in hybrid version is launch.

It will have a 28 kWh battery pack and an 88 kW electric motor that can produce 120 hp. Kia Niro is reportedly taller and heavier than Kia Ioniq, with Niro EV having a lower range than Ioniq Electric. Ioniq Electric can travel at a range of 124 miles, while, Niro can travel around 110 to 115 miles.

There is no official announcement yet on when the 2018 Kia Stonic will be launched. However, Kia Niro is anticipated to be launched later this year.
