2018 Volkswagen Atlas, Tiguan Being Offered With Longest Warranty Ever, Are They Worth It?

The 2018 Volkswagen Atlas and Tiguan are giving another reason for consumers to buy them: a six-year/72,000-mile warranty as an attempt to improve its reliability in the eyes of buyers. This is the longest warranty ever, but will it work?

The Volkswagen brand has always been riddled with issues regarding its quality. Offering a lengthy bumper-to-bumper warranty is the company's effort to convince car buyers that the 2018 Atlas and Tiguan are not going to let them down. Combined with competitive prices and top features, it would take a lot for consumers to say no to that.

For comparison, trusted brands Honda and Toyota only offer three years/36,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper coverage and five years/60,000 miles of powertrain warranty. Hyundai, which sits below the average quality index rating, offers a five-year/60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty.

A six-year/72,000-mile coverage is a good step for Volkswagen in trying to gain the confidence of consumers. The 2018 Volkswagen Atlas and Tiguan look promising, and it's not always that the company's models are unsound. The German automaker has produced spectacular cars; its newest lineup definitely deserves a chance.

Volkswagen's weak point has always been crossovers. With the latest refreshed versions of the Atlas and Tiguan, the carmaker is hoping to change that. The 2018 Atlas is the largest SUV ever made by VW, while the Tiguan is a bit smaller.

At a starting price of $31,425, the 2018 Atlas directly challenges the Ford Explorer, Toyota Highlander, and the Honda Pilot. All three have been tried and tested in the American market, and citizens like them. Now, the hurdle for Volkswagen is how to convince buyers to choose their brand in spite of its low-quality index rating.

Car enthusiasts will have to wait and see if Volkswagen's warranty strategy is going to work well for them. Are the 2018 Atlas and 2018 Tiguan worth the risk of choosing VW?
