Bandai Namco’s Tamagochi Is Being Re-Released For 2017: Prepare To Tickle Your Nostalgia With This 90s Toy

Bandai Namco's Tamagochi is back! The iconic Nokia 3310 isn't the only one making a splash for the current generation of tech-savvy individuals, as the original toy version that we know and love 20 years ago is being re-released. But you should know one more thing first.

If you are part of the 90s era, then you must have been part of Tamagochi's cult-like following. And if you weren't able to get one then since your parents probably didn't like the idea of you getting one, then Bandai Namco has your back.

The Japan-based company is re-releasing the electronic pocket pet complete with its original features, six characters, and colorful egg designs. This re-release comes weeks following Nokia's move to bring back the iconic 3310 that was a frenzy back in the day.

The only catch with this is that it is only available in stores in Japan for 1,500 yen or $13.55 as of this writing. However, you can still snag one as Amazon Japan is selling these babies for $17.36, which is just right up the original price's alley.

Yes, you no longer have to pay for the steep price of $130 on Amazon. Since Bandai Namco's 1996 Tamagochi toy has become a prized item, its price just prior to the re-release if also a bit priced!

Also, note that Bandai Namco's 2017 Tamagochi toys are not exactly the same as the 1996 ones. Other than the company staying true to the original look, the 2017 version is only half the size of the 1996 Tamagochi toy. Plus, the LCD display is no longer rectangle. It is now square. Lastly, the helpful icons on the bottom and top part of the screen seem to have been gone.

This little electronic toy will tickle your childhood memories, that is, if you were still just a kid back in the day, or at least tweak your nostalgia. It was in 1996 when Bandai Namco released the first batch of Tamagochis in Japan and quickly gained a massive following. Seriously, people were more than hooked.

Then, in 1997, Bandai Namco's electronic pocket toys were finally released in both the United States and Europe. Hopefully, it won't take a year this time for these babies to reach international waters outside Japan.

Thus, hopefully, Bandai Namco will make the 2017 Tamagochis readily available on Amazon for US and European buyers and in other stores worldwide. Well, let's just get ready for these little pocket pets.
