Ford and Karlie Kloss Team Up To Inspire And Teach More Girls How To Code

Back in 2014, Karlie Kloss founded a camp for coding named “Kode with Klossy”. The camp is focused on teaching girls from ages 13 to 18 how to code. Now she’s teaming up with Ford to inspire the next generation of female inventors and engineers.

As reported by Forbes, at the age of 15, Karlie expected shed’ have a career in math or science. Even though she has a successful career in the Fashion industry, she’s more interested in science and tech. The first coding class she took was three years ago, and according to her, she loved it. Her coding camp was launched in order to teach young women to code as the profession opens doors in industries from music and fashion to social impact and beyond. The students have a chance to develop projects based on their own interests. Some of the last year’s projects included apps in weather detection, fashion and civic engagement.

Now, Kode with Klossy is teaming up with Ford’s STEAM Experience initiative. Through the new program, the students will be able to learn the fundamentals of Ruby on Rails and explore concepts in front-end and back-end software engineering. There are advanced course options for returning students as well.

According to Adweek, an estimated 74% of girls are interested in science, technology, engineering and math courses. But the truth is that only less than one percent go on to major in computer science. In order to reverse those statistics, last year Ford launched the Ford STEAM Experience, a program set to inspire young women to embark on tech and science careers. So far they have invested $63 million to STEAM educational programs. In the past, Ford STEAM Experience have partnered with organizations such as Girls Who Code, high school mentorship programs and engineering scholarships for girls, and more.
