Fuji Heavy Industries Officially Changes Name To Subaru

Fuji Heavy Industries was formed on July 15, 1953, and it is Japan’s largest manufacturer of transportation equipment. While most famous as an automaker, Fuji Heavy Industries also produces aircraft, helicopters, and commercial engines.

As reported by Car Buzz, CEO Yasuyuki Yoshinaga stated that the change in company name declared Subaru’s determination to thrive as a brand that delivers value. Even though Fuji Heavy Industries manufactures more than just cars, a big chunk of their revenue is from the car division itself.
For many years, Subaru was just a car division of Fuji Heavy Industries. The first Subaru, the 360 model arrived in 1958 just 5 years after Fuji was founded. It is hard to believe that Subaru owners even knew Fuji Heavy Industries is the actual parent company of Subaru.

According to Motor1, the company believes that by uniting under the Subaru name, they will have bigger global growth and improved brand recognition. The company has been seeing strong sales, particularly in the United States. The company has 63 consecutive months of growth, and eight consecutive years of annual sales records.

As a result of the sales, Subaru is always keeping its U.S. lineup fresh by refreshing the Crosstrek and Legacy. On top of that, the company is also adding a three-row crossover to its roster. To celebrate its 50th anniversary of operations in America, Subaru promised to introduce a special edition vehicle for the 2018 model year.

Subaru cars are known for the use of a boxer engine layout and the use of Symmetrical All Wheel Drive drive-train layout. This equipment has become standard for mid-size and smaller cars in most international markets by 1996, and it is now standard in most North American market Subaru vehicles. The exception is the BRZ which uses the boxer engine with a rear-wheel-drive structure. Subaru cars are most popular among their dedicated core of buyers who desire the company’s signature drive train.
