Volvo Launches V90 Cross Country; 90 Series Lineup Concluded

Volvo ended the anticipation for the commercial release of the V90 Cross Country, which was previewed during the 2016 Paris Auto Show, as dealerships started since March. The vehicle finalizes the Volvo 90 series family and sits alongside XC90 SUV and S90 luxury Sedan which has made its global debut and recent V90 Wagon.

According to the manufacturer, the V90 Cross Country, activated by Volvo's T8 plug-in hybrid powertrain which utilizes a turbocharged and supercharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine backed by an eight-speed automatic transmission, bursts out 400hp and a pure electric range of 50km. Volvo also claims that in just a time span of 5.2 seconds, the V90 T8 can go from 0 to 100kph, while releasing just 47g/km of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. It is also said to be very economical and efficient for its gasoline consumption of 2.1 liters per 100km.

Aside from the technology engaged in its impressive engine, the Cross Country also has the most advanced standard safety package on the market highlighted by its Pilot Assist semiautonomous drive system with active cruise control. Other safety features include city six airbags, city safety tech, road sign recognition, a speed limiter, large animal detection and run-off-road mitigation; and optional safety equipment including, a blind spot monitor, rear collision warning, cross traffic alert, a 360-degree parking camera, and Volvo's Park Assist Pilot software.

Like its sedan sibling, it offers a premium cabin treatment with a 12.3-inch driver display for infotainment system and 9-inch color touch screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. However, it would probably be the best among the 90-series cars with its increased ride height which makes it more comfortable to ride with plus its light, effortless steering will ease the driving and seem to glide on the road.

Combining style and ingenuity, Volvo has found an excellent compromise between it all with its stylish exterior and interior combined. The variety of convenience features for drivers with recreational cargo, manageable ride height and capable off-road would put V90 Cross Country forward from the other vehicles that compete with its specifications like the Mercedes-Benz E-class wagon, the Subaru Outback, and the Audi A4 Allroad.
