Toyota FT-4X Concept Car to Debut in New York Auto Show; Will It Surpass The Popularity Of The FJ Cruiser?

Toyota FT-4X concept car teaser photo is just that - a teaser for car aficionados to keep salivating after this car. What is behind the hype over the Toyota FT-4X concept car?

Carbuzz pointed out in a very scanty and mysteriously titled photo release that the new car has a set of 18-inch Goodyear 225/55 tires. These tires are used mainly on off-roader vehicles.

No other news, the Toyota FT-4X concept car has been revealed by the manufacturer other than its tires. Car aficionados have to wait with bated breath until the great reveal on April 12 at the New York Auto Show.

The retro-style Toyota FJ Cruiser, which went into retirement last year, is the off-roader that the Toyota FT-4X is trying to replace. CNET opined that Toyota might have thought of testing the off-road market again after Ford confirmed it's launching a new Bronco and Jeep's Wrangler selling like hotcakes.

Also, the Toyota FJ Cruiser had a short but successful sale between the years 2006 and 2013. Sales started out strong but had a decline afterward.

Despite the near demise of the FJ Cruiser, it gained a cult following. The off-roader is still being hounded by car buyers in the used car market and residual values are surprisingly high.

What does the Toyota FT-4X concept car really like? Car review website made several educated guesses that it might be a slightly off-road enabled crossover that is possibly smaller than the Toyota RAV4 but much better overall.

Top Speed says with the rave over SUVs now, this Toyota FT-4X concept car would have sturdy and reliable 4WD system, grip, power and suspension. Moreover, the Toyota FT-4X would have superb interior design styling targeting the young but adventurous crowd.

Expect the Toyota FT-4X concept car to have a six-speed drivetrain. It's definitely great to have with this off-roader with spunk and class is going to give its buyer!
