Android Wear 2.0 Update Delayed, What Happened?

Back in February, Android Wear 2.0 was only available on a pair of new LG smartwatches. Google promised that the update will land on a wide range of existing devices soon after, but it seems they’ll have to wait a little bit more.

As reported by Wearable, Google rolled out the Android Wear 2.0 update to Casio Smart Outdoor Watch WSD-F10, Fossil Q Founder, and Tag Heuer Connected. The update for the other devices is currently being delayed due to a bug found in final testing.

According to Forbes, Google reported that they have tested the updated operating system on all of the watches that appeared on the update list, but it was up to the individual brands as to when they wanted to set the software free on their smartwatches. Android Wear first launched in 2014, and it functions as an operating system similar to Android for smartphones.

When the watch is paired with mobile phones that run Android version 4.3 or newer, or iOS version 8.2 or newer, Android Wear combines Google Now technology and mobile notifications into a smartwatch form factor. It also allows brands to have an access to a wide variety of apps and features, without having to develop software on their own.

In 2015, Android Wear was estimated to account for 10% of the smartwatch market. With that in mind, Android 2.0 is the most significant update to the smartwatch operating system. Together with some new additions, the update improved plenty usability features such as fitness and sports tracking.

The Android 2.0 update is expected to land on plenty other smartwatches such as Huawei Watch, Moto 360 2nd Gen, Moto 360 Sport, LG Watch R, LG Watch Urbane and 2nd Edition LTE, New Balance RunIQ, Polar M600, Asus ZenWatch 2 and 3, and more. There is a complete list compiled by Google that’ll get Android Wear 2.0 when it is finally ready to go.
