Smartphone maker Lenovo decided not to release a new Moto X model last year due to company restructuring. However, it would appear that the company has been clandestinely working on the 2017 model of the flagship smartphone that is aimed at the mid-range market.

A handful of photos believed to be that of the 2017 Moto X has recently surfaced on Google+. The photos were shared by notable leaker hellomotoHK. It looks like the Moto X showed on the photos is still a prototype.

Up front, the usual prototype identifiers can be seen along with the text that reads, "Motorola Confidential Property. Not for Sale." There is also an oval-shaped fingerprint sensor and a front-facing flash.

What really caught the attention and started the tech community discussions is what lies on the rear part of the Moto X. According to Android Police, it appears that the upcoming flagship phone will sport a dual-camera setup, a camera configuration that has become a trend lately especially in flagship and high-end models. Just below the camera sensors is the ubiquitous Motorola M logo.

According to Techno Buffalo, the 2017 Moto X is expected to pack a 5.5-inch display which is expected to support at least a 1080p resolution. However, a snap of the phone's bootloader menu revealed a rather disappointing feature. The phone will house a Snapdragon 625 chipset with 32GB of memory and 32GB of storage space.

The specs fueled speculations that Lenovo will downgrade the 2017 Moto X to the mid-range market, rather than compete with the like of iPhone and Galaxy S devices. Lenovo has yet to comment on the recent leak. Nevertheless, the phone is expected to be unveiled soon and might even get a release date within the foreseeable future.
