The 2017 Porsche 718 Boxster and Boxster S are better in every measurable way compared to the last year's models that they replaced. They are more attractive, more powerful, faster, quicker, pointier, and according to the automaker, they are more fuel-efficient and cleaner-running.
This 2017, both the Boxster roadster and Cayman coupe replaced the flat-six engine to a turbo, four-cylinder power plants. The new 2017 Porsche 718 Boxster is now powered by a turbocharged flat-four-cylinder engine that comes with a displacement of 2.0 liters that produces 350 hp. The 2.5-liters for the Boxster S produces 350 hp and 309 lb-ft of torque. These engines can be paired with a six-speed manual gearbox or PDK seven-speed dual clutch transmission. All power goes to the rear wheels.
Looks-wise, there is a little difference. The Boxster's air intakes are now bigger to assist the turbocharger, front fascia appears a little smaller, and a new Porsche badge is now affixed to its decklid spoiler.
In addition, customers can also choose for the full-LED headlights and taillights, which has Porsche's signature four-point DRL design. Inside tweaks are a little apparent, including a revised HVAC vents and a brand new steering wheel.
Aside from the all-new powertrains, a retuned chassis includes a firmed-up structure at the rear, and the 718 now has the electric-assisted power steering sourced from the 911 Turbo. The new 718 Boxster's brakes come from the 911 Carrera, and the optional Porsche Carbon Ceramic Brakes are carryover.
Meanwhile, the biggest consumer-tech upgrade is the addition of the automakers' PCM touchscreen infotainment system as standard equipment. Navigation comes optional, as is the Connect Plus Package which adds some online services and Apple CarPlay.
The 2017 Porsche 718 Boxster is already on sale now in the United States and soon will hit other showrooms in some other parts of the world. The 718 Boxter has a starting price at $53,900, while the Boxster S kicks off at $68,400.
