Some Retails Sell AMD Ryzen 5 Processors 3 Weeks Before Official Release

A handful of online retailers have accidentally sold some Ryzen 5 processors, way ahead of chip's official release date. Some lucky customers were happy to receive their new processors three weeks before AMD's slated release date.

The AMD Ryzen 5 series of processors are expected to hit the market on April 11. Usually, companies like AMD start to ship their new products to retailers early. This is to make sure that there are enough stocks on each retailer's shelve prior to the official launch.

Clearly, some retailers did not get the memo about the official release of the AMD Ryzen 5 and started selling their stocks three weeks prior. According to Tweak Town, a few lucky customers were able to purchase Ryzen 5 processor from their local retailers. Some of these customers claim that they just walk into their local retailer and saw that the Ryzen 5 processor is on display.

The AMD Ryzen 5 series of processors are expected to go head-to-head against Intel's Core-i5 lineup. Unlike the Ryzen 7 series which are intended for high-end and enthusiast markets, the Ryzen 5 is slated for the more mainstream market.

Leading the bunch is the Ryzen 5 1600X with six cores and 12 threads, according to Tech Frag. It has a base clock of 3.6GHz and a boost clock of 4.0GHz. It has 16MB of L3 cache and a TDP of just 95W. This chip is expected to cost $249.

The entry-level model is the Ryzen 5 1400. It has four cores and eight threads. It has a base clock of 3.2GHz and a boost clock of 3.4GHz. It has an L3 cache of 8MB and a TDP of 65W. This processor is aimed for the budget-friendly gaming market and is expected to cost $169 at launch.
