Kia Believes It Will Be Able To Create Full-Autonomous Cars In Ten Years

Kia is promising fully autonomous cars in a decade or so. Its autonomous car project codenamed DriveWise will add to the range of cars that already has an autonomous technology.

Kia Motors UK CEO Paul Philpott stressed that there is a big transition happening in the market. Many car companies are transitioning from driven cars to driverless cars.

Philpott added that this might be challenging but expect it to happen over the next decade. He believes that it will start in closed areas like airports and university campuses before it spreads worldwide, Fleet News reported.

Paul Philpott also explained that there will be a new trend on fuels. He explained that cars might focus on alternative fuels, this happened after Kia released Niro and Optima plug-in hybrids.

"Niro has been a great surprise. We have a big order bank, with more retail than fleet, but as a user-chooser car with all the conversation on diesel powertrain, there are big opportunities with plug-in cars," Philpott said.

It could be remembered that there were previous reports regarding Kia's full autonomous vehicle, where Kia promised full autonomous vehicles by 2030. Now, it seems like the company will be able to create full-autonomous cars earlier than expected.

The company is also planning to create a partially autonomous car by 2020. Since last year, they had created cars with Highway Autonomous Driving and Urban Autonomous Driving that uses sensors and GPS to control itself.

In the case of a problem, the cars also have an Emergency Stop System that automatically puts the car off the road. Aside from that, the car also has an electronic valet that allows vehicles to park without a driver.

It is still uncertain if the company will be able to create autonomous cars in the next ten years. But since its plans are already in place, consumers will just have to wait and see what they finally make.
