2016 Toyota Mirai Undisputed Best Hydrogen-Fueled Car; Better Than Honda Clarity

The 2016 Toyota Mirai is still considered as the undisputed leader in hydrogen-powered vehicles, even beating Honda Clarity. Even as Honda Clarity was released late last year, industry experts still think that the 2016 Mirai still is the go-to choice for hydrogen-fueled vehicles for a myriad of reasons.

According to Motor Trend, Honda Clarity shares the same dimensions as the 2016 Toyota Mirai. The Clarity, however, is 0.2-inch longer and 2.4-inches wider. The Mirai on the hand is 2.2-inch taller and has 1.1-inch longer wheelbase. Both also have an impressive interior, however, the futuristic interior of Mirai is highly favored than that of Honda Clarity.

The buttonless touchpad area between the front seats is a smart way to operate the controls. Also, having carbon fiber accents add a little bit of character and distinction to the Mirai. The infotainment screen is in front of the dashboard and the digital instrument cluster is deeper in the cabin which gives it a multi-layered appeal.

In terms of passenger capacity, the Honda Clarity beats the Mirai. Honda Clarity can comfortably seat five with its leather-trimmed seats. On the other hand, the Mirai has four seats lined in SofTex which is a synthetic material. Honda also is better for having Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone compatibility and connectivity which the Mirai doesn't have.

The 2016 Toyota Mirai is also more powerful in terms of torque. It uses an electric motor, nickel-metal hydride battery producing 153-horsepower and 247 pound-feet of torque. the Honda Clarity, on the other hand, uses an electric motor, fuel cell, and lithium-ion battery producing 174-horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque.

As added by MSN Auto, the 2016 Toyota Mirai can also accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 8.6-seconds. This is not a bad record for a vehicle of this kind. It even beat the Prius which completed the same acceleration test in 9.7-seconds and 2015 Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell which finished in 11.3-seconds.

In more ways than one, it is true that nothing beats the original as the 2017 Toyota Mirai is the first vehicle of its kind to be released in the US. It is only available in about eight dealerships throughout the State of California and only 918 units were delivered during the first 11 months of 2016. Honda Clarity may be newer, but the original will still remain as the best option according to experts.
