2017 Tesla Model S P100D Sets Quarter-Mile Record Twice In A Single Day

The Tesla Model S P100D made waves in the motoring community when it set a new real-world quarter-mile record of 10.723 seconds. However, the same record was beaten on the same day.

The team behind DragTimes filmed two races featuring two different Tesla Model S P100Ds running against a BMW 550i and a Camaro ZL1. During one of the tests, the Model S P100D managed to break the quarter-mile record for a four-door production car. The car set the record time at 10.723 seconds.

One of the two P100Ds set a slightly slower quarter-mile time of 10.875 seconds. However, this particular model is slightly heavier that the record-setting one. It has options like the sunroof, and the organizers claim that all the features made the car around 300 pounds heavier.

The record-setting P100D, as well as the heavier one, runs on Tesla's newest firmware update. Simply called the Ludicrous+ upgrade, it does sound like it is living up to its name given the record it set in a quarter-mile sprint.

Just as fast as speed records go, the historic feat was beaten on the same day by Chris Bergemann from Oregon, according to The Next Web. Bergemann's record stands at 10.638 seconds. That is an extremely narrow margin of 0.085 seconds.

At the time the new record was set, the 2017 Tesla Model S P100D was not modified. As Electrek reported, "A completely stock one-month-old 2017 Tesla Model S P100D with no changes to anything, original interior, original wheels, original tires just ran a 10.638-second pass, backed up with a 10.656 pass and a 10.669 pass."

This new record sounds ridiculous. Nevertheless, check the video of the record-setting below and see for yourself.
