Tesla bumped its all-electric Tesla Model S price by over US$2,000 back in November and now the vehicle's price is about to go even higher. Reports are claiming that the company is gearing up to discontinue the vehicle's entry-level 60 kWh trim.

Tesla Model S price to go even higher as the company discontinues the car's entry-level trim. Tesla has announced that it will be discontinuing the Model S 60 kWh entry-level trim as confirmed by automotive website Elektrek. The electric vehicle manufacturer will also be discontinuing the car's dual-motor version, The Model S 60D.

The company has already sent out emails notifying its customers of the change. The last for interested customers to buy the entry-level 60 kWh version will be this coming April 16, 2017.

The change, according to Tesla, is because it has noticed that most of the customers who purchase the 60 kWh version eventually purchase the 75 kWh battery upgrade streamlining the ordering process calls for the company to discontinue to the said version. The upgrade is achieved by way of a software update.

Given that there are no other changes except for the 60 kWh version of the Model S being discontinued; the new entry-level trim will now be the 75 kWh Model S which has a starting price of US$74,500. The company also made a similar move with the Tesla Model X in the previous year which initially came in a 60 kWh version and could be upgraded to 75 kWh via a software update. The 60 kWh version of the Model X was eventually discontinued in October of 2016.

The move to discontinue the current entry-level trim of the Tesla Model S comes ahead of the launch of the company's cheapest electric vehicle yet, the Tesla Model 3. The Tesla Model 3 is expected to sport a price of only US$35,000.
