Nintendo has finally announced that Super Mario Run will launch for Android devices on March 23. As previously reported, Nintendo confirmed back in January that the game would hit Android devices in March, but this is the first time that they gave official date release.

The news came from a tweet from Nintendo in the United States revealing that the game will now be available for Android users. The tweet, reveals, "Android version of #SuperMarioRun will be available on 3/23 with the Ver.2.0.0 update! Pre-register now."

The version 2.0.0 update teases new features such as the ability to unlock World 1-4 in the free version of the game by simply completing a challenge, and be able to play new characters as well. Piracy was the reason why the game was not available on Android devices at the same time as iOS.

Mario creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, said in an interview with Mashable, "For us, we view our software as being a very important asset." "And also for consumers who are purchasing the game, we want to make sure that we're able to offer it to them in a way that the software is secure, and that they're able to play it in a stable environment."

For starters, the game is an endless runner game in the vein of Temple Run with players can simply tap the display to make Mario Jump over the obstacles that get in his way. The game also has a new battle mode which can be played against other players around the world.

In addition, the game recently reached a major milestone, reaching over 50 million downloads after it was released on Apple devices on December 15. The new game surprisingly reached 40 million downloads in just four days, and then another ten million was confirmed on December 23.

Super Mario Run comes with a sampling of levels, but players need to pay $10 to unlock every course. Nintendo announced that five percent of players have paid to buy all the courses, which means that the game has already brought in many millions of dollars in revenue.
