[VIDEO] 2017 Nissan Frontier PRO-4X Takes The Ike Gauntlet Test

The team behind what is considered as the world's toughest towing test have recently published a test video using a 2017 Nissan Frontier PRO-4X. This competition is held annually in order to recognize some of the best off-road and towing trucks in the land.

The 2017 Nissan Frontier PRO-4X is facing a tough competition with the 2017 GMC Canyon Denali Diesel and the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado V6 8-Speed, both trucks are impressive on their own. The 2017 Nissan Frontier was the last to be tested and based on the results, it looks like the flagship Nissan pickup truck might be lagging behind the competition.

The particular 2017 Nissan Frontier model used during the test has a 4.0L V6 engine with 261 horsepower and 281lb-ft of torque. It has a 5-speed automatic transmission and a max towing capacity of 6,450lbs.

According to The Fast Lane Truck, the Ike Gauntlet test involves a pickup truck being hitched to a 6,100lbs cargo trailer and was tested for uphill and downhill courses. Points can be deducted or added depending on different factors and preferences.

For the uphill test, the team took an 8-mile stretch of road on a seven percent grade. The 2017 Nissan Frontier PRO-4X took 8 minutes and 45.87 seconds to complete and 3.7MPG.

For the downhill test, the truck is driven on a downhill slope at 50MPH and max speed of 60MPH. If the car runs way past 60MPH, the brakes are applied. One point is deducted every time the brake is applied.

With a maximum possible points of 100, the 2017 Nissan Frontier PRO-4X garnered a total of 63 points. Topping the list is the 2017 GMC Canyon Denali Diesel with 87 points.
