The release of the high-end Ryzen 7 processors have left the mid-range and entry-level market excited for what AMD has in store for them. Recently, the chipmaker revealed that the mid-range Ryzen 5 processors will hit the market on April 11 and will have cut-throat price starting at $169.

On top of the list is the AMD Ryzen 5 1600X which packs six cores and 12 threads. The processor has a base clock of 3.6GHz and a boost clock of 4.0GHz. This particular model is priced at $249. Just below the 1600X is the Ryzen 5 1600 which has the same core and thread counts but at a slightly lower clock speed. The 1600 has a base clock of 3.2GHz and boost clock of 3.6GHz, according to Ars Technica.

The lower two models are a pair of quad-core processors each packing eight threads. First is the Ryzen 5 1500X which has a base clock of 3.5GHz and boost clock of 3.7GHz. Lastly, there is the Ryzen 5 1400 which has a base clock of 3.2GHz and boost clock of 3.4GHz, according to Gamespot.

The Ryzen 5 1500X will cost $189, while the 1400 model will cost $169. All four Ryzen 5 processors will use the same AM4 socket and will be compatible with the same chipsets and motherboards as with their Ryzen 7 siblings. AMD have been aggressively challenging Intel's market dominance with the release of its Zen architecture.

Real-world benchmarks of the Ryzen 7 processors have shown that the processors are a monster when it comes to workload-heavy use. However, the processors do falter when it comes to gaming. Some tech analysts have attributed this to poor software optimization since the Ryzen 7 processors are still new. Nevertheless, the tech community is still delighted that AMD has finally offered a worthy competition to Intel's monopoly of the chip market.
