Lamborghini Huracan Performante: The Fastest Standard Production Car

Lamborghini with its Huracan Performante model has taken the notion of performance to levels never seen before. They have re-engineered the vehicle entirely. They have reduced weight, added engine power, developed a new chassis, and introduced an innovative system of active aerodynamics.

As reported by Independent, Lamborghini Huracan Performante comes with a 5.2-liter V10 engine that makes 631 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. It needs 2.9 seconds to go from 0-62mp and the car weighs in at 1382 kilograms. All of the power and the torque are fed by a seven-speed dual clutch automatic transmission to a Haldex four-wheel drive.

Lamborghini has developed a new ultra-lightweight carbon fiber composite that is used for the bodywork of the car. With this material, Lamborghini is capable of making large and complex areas in one piece. For example, the fixed rear wing and all of its air ducts and flaps are made from a single piece.

According to Auto Blog, Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva or ALA is the biggest feature of the Huracan Performante. The most notable difference in performance does not come from horsepower, but from weight reduction. Lamborghini has developed Performante in such a way that the active aerodynamics channels the air to stall the front or rear aero elements of the car so it can change the downforce and drag.

Active aerodynamics is nothing new. Porsche and McLaren’s cars are using their rear spoilers as an air brake to aid in extreme deceleration. But what’s intriguing is that Performante does not move the aerodynamic elements, just the way the air flows around them. With this technology, Lamborghini Huracan Performante was able to set a lap record time at the Nurburgring track of 6 minutes, 52.01 seconds.

Deliveries of Huracan Performante will start this summer and the price starts at £213,000. Other good news is that Lamborghini will not artificially restrict production volume, which means that if you are in the market for a track-focused car, Lamborghini Huracan Performante will be available to you.
