The 2017 Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR is VW's facelifted race version of the compact classic. This has been prepared specifically for the tracks complete with new aerodynamics and fine-tuned tech under the hood.

Following the automaker's full-season success with 17 won races and 2 championships, the new track-ready hot hatch is aimed at professionals who want to compete in the TCR touring car championships, worldwide. This is the automaker's second version of the GTI TCR, according to AutoExpress UK.

Aerodynamic upgrade. For 2017, VW focused mostly on aerodynamic tweaks for the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR. It now sports a huge rear wing, large rear diffusers for optimized air flow, and a revised front bumper with race spec front splitter.

Engine. Powering the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR is a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, fine-tuned to deliver 350 horses. The engine is mated to a six-speed sequential racing transmission, which is controlled via steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

Performance. VW has not released official numbers for the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR. However, Motor1 pointed out that predecessor reached 0-62 mph from a static start in 5.2 seconds. So, with the aerodynamic upgrades and engine tweak, this could be slashed by a tenth of a second.

Pricing. The company expects to prepare around 30 Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR for the upcoming TCR season. Before taxes, the racing hot hatch is available for about $95,000.

The German automaker won 2 championships and 17 races for different customer teams worldwide with the previous Golf GTI TCR model. In fact, for this year, the company noted that they had started taking orders for the next-generation model. One such customer who ordered is Liqui Moly Team Engstler.
