Terrible news, the production for the 2018 Jeep Wrangler Pickup Truck will be delayed until late 2019. However, the project is still very much alive.
The Jeep Wrangler Pickup Truck was originally set to debut next year, 2018. According to a recent report by The Detroit News, Jeep head Mike Manley stated that the pickup will not begin production until late 2019.
Mike Manley leads the Jeep brand for Fiat Chrysler. According to Manley, the truck will be built in Toledo, Ohio at the same assembly complex which built the two- and four-door Wranglers.
The FCA Toledo, Ohio plant is the birthplace of the Wrangler. FCA is also planning to move the Jeep Grand Cherokee to its Belvidere Assembly Plant to free up space in Toledo for the Jeep Wrangler Pickup Truck production.
To this day, the reason behind the delay is still unclear. Jeep has yet to release a statement regarding the reasons behind their decision to postpone the Wrangler-based pickup.
However, several websites speculated it could be due to the recent debut of the all-new Jeep Compass as well as the current Grand Wagoneer project. As of the moment, Jeep is still brainstorming model names such as Gladiator, Comanche, and Willys Jeep Truck to come up with the perfect name.
Fiat Chrysler has kept most details about the Jeep Wrangler Pickup Truck under wraps. But there were several spy shots and spy videos which emerged last summer.
The spy shots and videos were of a heavily camouflaged test vehicle. Although it is heavily covered, it appears that the truck may have a longer wheelbase than the current four-door Wrangler.
Auto World News recently wrote about the latest specs and details of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler Pickup Truck. An excerpt from the report reads:
It is expected to look all new both inside and out. However, it will still feel pack some signature Wrangler feel to it so loyalists can still look forward to the vehicle. With production expected to begin at Jeep's Toledo, OH plant this November, the Wrangler is undergoing its first complete makeover since the 2007 model year. While it will be all new inside and out, by all accounts, it won't look radically different so as not to disenfranchise loyalists in the process.
