Lamborghini Huracan Performante vs McLaren 720S: Impressive Engineering, Aesthetic & Weight

The 2017 Geneva Motor Show had opened the eyes of auto enthusiasts to a lot of new options for this year. Other than that, it looks like a competition has been taken to a different plane as cars are more powerful and functional than ever. Records have been broken and standards have been raised to levels that were unimaginable before -- all in one event.

Each person is entitled to his or her choice of what makes a car good. However, for this recent event, two of the most eye-catching cars were the Lamborghini Huracan Performante and the McLaren 720S. Both are designed by some of the world's top performing and most valuable car makers. What differs is their approach to engineering and design.

Engine. The new McLaren 720S marks the second generation of the brand's Super Series. This time, it gets a lighter body and a bigger 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8 which it calls M480T. It also has a seven-speed dual clutch automatic and rear wheel drive as standard transmission. This car can run from 0 to 100kph in just 2.9 seconds, which is said to be at par with the Lamborghini Huracan Performante, reports Bangkok Post. In contrast, the Lamborghini Huracan Performante is powered by a 5.2 liter V10. This allows it to run from 0 to 100 kmps in just 2.9 seconds with a top speed of 325 kmph.

Looks and Form. The face of the McLaren 720S is highlighted with larger headlamp casings while the rear part shows thin light strips and exhaust pipes which are placed up. However, the real deal that sets this apart from others of the same category would be its so-called Monocage II body whose carbon fibre tub extends to the roof structure. The McLaren 720S weighs 1,283kg which makes it the lightest in its class.

On the other hand, the Lamborghini Huracan Performante boasts of the company's Forged Composite carbon fiber which was been used in the making of the spoilers, rear bumper, engine cover and diffuser. The use of these lightweight components has allowed Lamborghini to bring down the weight of the car by 40 kgs.

NDTV reports that this car employs Lamborghini's Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva, a new aerodynamic technology that would allow the car to switch between maximum downforce and low drag setups by adjusting the flaps in the spoilers accordingly.
