Koenigsegg Will Power Spyker's C8 Preliator Spyder

Dutch automaker Spyker has revealed that Koenigsegg, the Swedish manufacturer of high-performance sports cars, will lend a hand to the former. Recent reports have revealed that Spyker's C8 Preliator Spyder will come with V8s from Koenigsegg.

According to Jalopnik, Spyker and Koenigsegg, which are both small car companies, will do well to collaborate on the C8 Preliator Spyder. Both Spyker and Koenigsegg have even worked with Audi V8s in the past, so their latest partnership will bode well for both companies.

Koenigsegg's engine will be a "naturally-aspirated 5.0-liter V8." The engine is also "good for 600 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque (an even 600Nm)," claims Spyder. The company also said that the engine is a 90-degree configuration with quad cams that has four valves per cylinder.

Spyder also claimed that the engine will be "mated to a six-speed manual transmission." The engine from Koenigsegg will be used in both the Preliator's coupe and convertible form. Automobile enthusiasts will have to wait for a bit since Spyder also revealed that production for the C8 Preliator will "move up nine months to the end of this year for the coupe and midway through next year for the drop top." Spyder's C8 Preliator has an estimated starting price of $429,000 (the price does not include the matching Louis Vitton luggage set).

However, a separate report from Autoblog states that the Koenigsegg engine is rated at 500 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. The engine will also replace the Audi V8 engines previously used in the earlier batch of C8 coupes.

Spyker has also announced that only 100 copies of the Spyder will be produced, and all units will come with an automatic soft top. The vehicles' name, Preliator, means "fighter" in Latin and is an homage to the Dutch automaker's first iteration as an aircraft maker back in World War 1. The Spyker's logo even mimics a propeller that is spinning.

Spyker's C8 Preliator comes with Lotus suspension, a carbon-fiber body, aluminum hood and deck lid, and prominent aerodynamic treatments. The Preliator will also have an infotainment display equipped with Spotify connectivity and Apple Music.

The infotainment display can also respond to hand gestures. The Spyder will launch by summer of next year. The Preliator coupe and convertible will both be built in Coventry, England.
