2018 Volkswagen Arteon Gran Turismo: A Sexy 276-HP Fastback

The 2018 Volkswagen Arteon Gran Turismo has been unveiled ahead of its public debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. This new sporty sedan seats five and measures 111.6-inch wheelbase along with a stretched roofline.

The car looks very similar to the VW Sport Coupe Concept GTE that was launched at Geneva two years ago. It is based on the Modular Transverse Matrix platform.

Tobias Suhlmann, the man behind the Arteon's exterior design, said, "The athletic lines of the Arteon embody a highly functional overall concept. Form and function find common ground here in a progressive way. In contrast to classic saloons, the Gran Turismo offers more space and flexibility thanks to its long wheelbase, coupé-like fastback design, and large rear hatch."

The new model has a long hood that stretches over flared fenders, and wide chrome grille lines that cover its two-socket LED headlights. It measures around 191.4 x 73.7 x 56.2 inches. The automaker offers six turbocharged four-cylinder powertrains that range in power from 148 to 276 hp to choose from, and all will be offered in front-wheel and all-wheel drive versions.

Chances for the 2018 Volkswagen Arteon Gran Turismo arriving in the U.S. are highly unlikely, but the version most likely to hit the U.S. is a 276 hp 2.0-liter l-4. This engine is paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The automaker claims that the engine gets 26/39 mpg city/highway in the Arteon.

In addition, the new model offers 19.9 to 55.0 cubic feet of luggage space and offers in two trims, the R-line and Elegance. Both trims will get LED lights, six-way power seats, and leather steering wheel. The Elegance trim package will include LED taillights, 18-inch aluminum wheels, chrome door mirror caps, and an Alcantara/leather interior trim.

The R-line on the other hand, includes front air-intakes, R-line sports steering wheel, R-line bumper, and a black headliner. Other features will include a digital cockpit, Discover Pro infotainment system with a 9.2-inch glass screen and gesture control, emergency assist, and adaptive cruise control.

The 2018 Volkswagen Arteon Gran Turismo will go on sale in Germany this coming mid-June. Unfortunately, VW didn't announce yet on when will it arrive in the U.S. market.
