2018 Dodge Demon: 10 Seconds or Quicker, Will Use 'Race-Hardened Parts'

The 2018 Dodge Demon is a highly-anticipated muscle car that will debut at the New York International Auto Show in April. While this a quite some time away, the America automaker has been busy giving the world glimpses of what's to come.

According to The Drive, the latest teaser video from Dodge is entitled "Race Hardened Parts." The automaker saw it fit to arm the new 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon with an improved driveline. This will avoid occasional driveshaft and axle destruction.

The American automaker believes that the differential housing, prop shaft, and half shafts all need to be strengthened. This is in order to cope with drag strip abuse. Unlike the Hellcat, the new prop shaft has an increased torque capacity due to the high-strength steel.

In addition, the tube is also thicker than the Hellcat's and the stub shafts are heat-treated too. The new differential housing also sports heat-treated A383 aluminum alloy with an increased torque capacity over the Hellcat's. Lastly, the spline half shafts can also handle more torque than the Hellcat's.

The new Dodge Demon isn't just about the hardware either. In order to ensure that wheel hop won't be a problem, the new Dodge Challenger Demon comes with Launch Assist. This limits the engine torque to the driven wheels so that stress on the driveline is reduced. Additionally, a cleaner launch is achievable.

In another report by Road and Track, the American automaker apparently announced that the new Demon will come with a four-point harness with hardware. This sounds like Dodge is preparing for the muscle car to go very, very fast. The website reported that an insider believes that the highly-anticipated muscle car can do a quarter-mile in 10 seconds or less. For reference, most drag strips require a dedicated racing harness for vehicles that can do a quarter-mile in 12 seconds or less.

The 2018 Dodge Demon will finally debut next month! In the meantime, what else will Dodge tease us with? And how powerful will the finished product actually be? Share your comments below.
