RUF Brings Back The CTR: All-New 700bhp Yellowbird Unveiled At Geneva Auto Show

Ruf caused quite a stir at this year's Geneva Auto Show. The German sports car manufacturer has revealed an all-new 700bhp CTR, also simply known as the Yellow Bird.

Ruf Automobile reveals brand new 700bhp CTR at the Geneva Auto Show. The original Yellow Bird was introduced back in 1987. The vehicle was based on the Porsche 911. The new CTR is based off a bespoke carbon fiber tub bonded to a structure that's made of steel. This creates the upper passenger cell, front frames, and rear frames.

The body of the new CTR is made entirely out of carbon fiber making the vehicle weigh only 1,200 kilograms. The car doors sport flush handles that come out only when needed just like those on Jaguar's F-type. The rear windows are angled in toward the car's center creating a vent of sorts that supplies air to the engine.

It sports double wishbone suspension hangs on all of four corners. It has pushrod-actuated dampers to help reduce unsprung weight with the help of carbon ceramic disc brakes.

The new CTR is nothing like the Ruf supercar CTR3. This vehicle goes retro and has its engine at the rear. The 700bhp engine is a water-cooled twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter flat six-cylinder which is based off the Mezger powerplant in some early GT and 911 Turbo vehicles.

As previously mentioned, the engine is able to churn out 700bhp. Torque is 649 pound-feet. It is mated to a six-speed manual transmission developed by Ruf.

The 2017 Ruf CTR can go from 0 to 100 kilometers in under 3.5 seconds. It goes on to hit 125 miles per hour in less than 9 seconds. The new Yellow Bird has a top speed of 225 miles per hour.

The German sports car manufacturer is said to only build 30 units of the new CTR. Each vehicle will cost roughly US$791,450.
