‘Nier: Automata’ Review: A Fast-Paced Journey with Excellent Gameplay Mechanics

One of the best assets of "Nier: Automata" is in its gameplay mechanics. Developer PlantinumGames was able to seamlessly blend together elements of sides-scrolling shooter, 2.5D platformer, and third-person hack-and-slash action RPG into the game. Coupled with a stunning visual and decent, albeit slow-paced, storyline, "Nier: Automata" is easily one of the best single-player titles to emerge early this year.

Gameplay. The gameplay mechanics and combat system of "Nier: Automata" is fun to play with. You can mash up multiple buttons to deliver slashing attacks, shoot, as well as defend or dodge enemy attacks. Everything is held together by a glorious camera system that melds perfectly well with the fast-paced action genre. The almost limitless choice of attacks and combo also made sure that the game will stay refreshing throughout the whole experience.

Visuals and Sound. "Nier: Automata" has stunning visuals presented in a massive sense of scale adds exhilaration to the game. While there are some hiccups like dropping frame rates and textures not properly rendered, they are rare and do not affect the overall gameplay experience. These occasional glitches are almost non-existent especially when you are drawn deep into the game by its spectacular soundtrack from composer Keiichi Okabe.

Story. The story of "Nier: Automata" picks up from the ending of "Drakengard 3" where the remnants of humanity are at war with robot invaders. The game has an interesting storyline but the progression is quite slow for an action-packed game. The story of the game's android characters are also a bit too immaterial for gamers to fully connect to, especially when compared to the first "Nier" game of the series.

In conclusion, "Nier: Automata" is a fun and exhilarating action game with an engaging combat system and stunning visuals. The game's storyline might be a little uninteresting at times, but it does not seriously affect the overall experience of the game.
