Pokemon GO News: Trading Feature To Be Released Before PvP Battles

Last month, developer Niantic Labs confirmed that PvP battles and monster trading, two anticipated features of the popular game, will be rolled out to players very soon. The game developer has made has recently confirmed that that the first to be rolled out will be Pokemon Go trading feature.

Pokemon GO to get monster trading feature within the year. The anticipated feature was discussed more in detail at the 2017 Game Developers Conference. According to senior product manager Tatsuo Nomura, monster trading on the mobile game will allow players to trade Pokemon with players but only within a set proximity.

Players located in an area with a large population will have no problems trading Pokemon so as long as they are within each other's proximity. However, there will be no internet-based monster trading.

"You shouldn't be able to exchange your Pokemon with someone who is 100 miles away from you," Nomura said. He further added, "We're still trying to come up with an answer (to Pokemon trading) that makes sense so it doesn't kill the game. If we fail this, we can easily kill the game."

The limitation is clearly a way for Niantic Labs to maintain the balance between playing the game and just trading Pokemon. Allowing trading on data regardless of proximity could be abused and compromise the game's appeal.

Niantic Labs has not announced the details of the feature's release date. However, speculations are saying that it could happen in July as a way to celebrate the first year anniversary of Pokemon GO.

Pokemon trading along with PvP battles was announced in mid-February of this year. Niantic Labs CEO John Hanke confirmed that both features were coming. The features would've been released much earlier if not for server issues initially experienced. Hanke also mentioned that Niantic is looking into hosting real-world events that will allow players to convene to capture hard-to-find Pokemon.
