The 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander might not a household name, but it does certainly give a lot of excellent features for the money, and an optional V6 is available for extra power. The Outlander is also one of the most competitive segments of the market.
The 2017 model is a seven-passenger crossover SUV that offers four different trim levels: ES, SE, SEL and GT. The GT has a 3.0-liter V6 powertrain, and all other trims get the 2.4-liter four cylinders. AWD is standard on the GT and optional on the SE, ES, and SEL.
Stand-alone options for all trims will include a remote engine start, a tow hitch, and a rear-seat entertainment system. All trims come with a LED fog lights and front and rear parking sensors except for the ES.
The new 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander offers two engines. The ES, SE, SEL will have a 2.4-liter four cylinder that produces 166 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque that is matched with a continuously variable automatic transmission. All three trim levels offer a front or all-wheel drive.
The GT comes standard with a 3.0-liter V6 engine. It makes 224 hp and 215 lb-ft of torque and is paired with a conventional six-speed automatic and AWD. The GT can accelerate from 0 to 60 in 7.6 seconds.
Standard safety features of the new model include an antilock disc brake, hill-start assist, a rearview camera, traction and stability control, a driver knee airbag, front-seat side airbags, and side curtain airbags for the first and second rows. The optional safety features include a 360-degree camera, lane departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, blind spot monitoring and also a forward collision mitigation system with automatic braking.
On the inside, the dashboard design is attractive but subtle. It's covered with a refined soft-touch material that's matched with a supple trim on the door panels. Infotainment features are class-competitive, featured by a standard voice control and a 6.1-inch touchscreen interface. New optional features will include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Automatic high beams, and a heated steering wheel.
The 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander is comfortable to drive especially on long trips, with less cabin noise at speed thanks to a few recent updates to sound-deading. The vehicles AWD offers selectable modes that provide a capability on dirt roads and in deep snow.
