2017 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Reclaim Its Crown As A Luxury Roadster Hierarchy

Few if any vehicles are better-suited to luxury top-down touring than the new 2017 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class. With its comfortable ride quality, classy interior, capable handling, excellent engines, and ample standard and available features, it's an outstanding car in virtually every respect.

For this year, the new model gets an exterior styling update that brings it into the line with new Mercedes cars. All SL models gets additional standard features including LED headlights, keyless entry and ignition, adjustable tri-color ambient lighting, automatic emergency braking, revised gauges, dual USB ports, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and an improved power hardtop that can be operated at up to 25 mph and even has an automatic trunk separator that adjusts in sync with the roof.

With these improvements, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class reclaims its position at the top of the luxury roadster hierarchy. A few cars can compete with the SL's intoxicating blend of performance, class, luxury and refinement.

The car is a two-seat convertible that comes with a power-folding hardtop. There are four trim levels offered: SL450, SL550, AMG SL and AMG SL65.

The SL450 comes with a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 that produces 362 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. A nine-speed automatic transmission is paired with manual shift control that sends power to the rear wheels.

The SL550 has a 4.77-liter V8 that produces 449 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. It's paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and can accelerate from 0 to 60 in just 4.3 seconds.

The AMG SL comes with a 5.5-liter V8 producing 577 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque. It comes with a high-performance, seven-speed automatic transmission. The AMG SL65 will keep the seven-speed transmission but step up to a turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 that makes 621 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque.

On the inside, multi-color seats further enhance comfort with adjustable side bolsters for lateral support and also massage functions to decrease fatigue on longer drives. The car also has a Magic Sky glass that allows drivers and passengers to enjoy a clear panoramic sunroof or a transition to dark-tinted glass at the flip of a switch.

Furthermore, standard safety features for all 2017 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class models will include antilock brakes, side airbags, traction and stability control, side curtain airbags, knee airbags, a driver warning system. It also includes a forward collision warning system with automatic emergency braking Mercedes Pre-Safe system.
