2017 Ram Power Wagon: Still An Amazing Off-Road Experience

The first Dodge Ram Power Wagon came out in 1946 with the goal of giving the best off-road experience. The Power Wagon continues to do that 71 years later with the 2017 Ram Power Wagon.

The 2017 Dodge Ram Power Wagon. The Ram Power Wagon pickup truck is based off the Ram 2500 HD 4x4 Crew Cab. It has a 6-foot 4-inch bed and is 237.3 inches in length. The off-road capable pickup truck stands high and proud with a ground clearance of 14.3 inches.

The Ram Power Wagon sports a unique 2-inch lift suspension system as the pickup truck was designed to spend most of its time off-road. The suspension system is composed of Bilstein monotube shocks and high articulation three-link front and five-link rear live axle suspension. In addition, it sports an electronically disconnecting front stabilizer bar that allows for more axle articulation.

Under the hood is a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 engine that can churn out 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. It has a towing capacity of 10,030 pounds. The vehicle is designed to pick one's way over rocks and through mud bogs unlike the desert racer Ford F-150 Raptor.

The Ram Power Wagon pickup trucks' engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and a manual BorgWarner 44-47 two-speed transfer case. The latter is capable of sending torque to either the rear wheels or all four wheels.

The 2017 Dodge Ram Power Wagon's rear axle has an 11.5-inch ring gear while the front sports the same 9.3-inch one. It sports beefier axle shafts with a diameter of 1.4 inches at the front and 1.5 inches at the rear. It is able to handle uphill climbs with ease thanks to its 2.64:1 low range with the 33-inch Goodyear tires provide more than enough grip. The new Power Wagon has a hill-descent control that allows for a pedal-free drive downhill.
