The 2019 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 was caught testing at the Nürburgring this past weekend. Several spy shots of the Camaro prototype were all over the internet immediately.
Naturally, the prototype was heavily camouflaged all over. Aside from that, the vehicle was also covered in tarp.
The camouflage can't hide what looks to be a pretty large front splitter. A hood flap is also visible. Reports say the flap could be hiding some sort of a vent.
It features fresh aerodynamics, new suspension, wheels, tires and weight-saving components. All of these combined with the existing ZL1's 650-hp LT4 supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine and a six-speed manual transmission.
The 2019 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 is also equipped with Brembo brakes. According to chief engineer Al Oppenheiser, this next-generation vehicle is "the ultimate track-day Camaro."
In a report by Joel Stocksdale from AutoBlog, he talked about the possibilities for the Z/28. "One other point: Oppenheiser emphasized at the 1LE reveal that a key characteristic of the last Z/28 was its naturally aspirated engine. That leads us to believe any future model will also use a naturally aspirated V8. We've previously heard that GM has a double-overhead-cam V8 named LT5 in the works," He said.
It can go around the General Motors' 2.9-mile Milford Road Course within just three seconds! According to reports, it could also be possible that the Z/28 would use the 750-hp version of the supercharged pushrod small-block V8 used for the 2018 C7 Corvette ZR1.
Nonetheless, it is expected that the new engine will be combined with a few new features. This could include dual overhead camshafts, four-valve combustion chambers, and direct fuel injections.
Aside from those features, the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro could also come equipped with aluminum block and head construction, titanium connecting rods and approximately 5.5 liters of displacement to produce the target power.
