The 2017 Nissan Leaf has had some changes with time, and it is still a bit ahead of its newer rivals regarding range. On the other hand, Chevrolet has also updated their Bolt model. The car now comes with bigger range, a reasonable price, and impressive driving manners. Let’s take an in-depth look at both vehicles.
As previously reported by Auto World News, the Japanese multinational automobile manufacturer Nissan has three different models for its 2017 Nissan Leaf. They all get the bigger 30-kilowatt-hour battery pack. Previously, this battery was only offered to the Leaf SV, and Leaf SL trim models. The 2017 Nissan Leaf is now expected to have a range of 107 miles. The vehicle comes with bigger engines too.
Nissan USA stated that all the models are equipped with an 80-kilowatt electric motor with 107 horsepower and the motor is capable of producing 187 pound-feet of torque. The basic Nissan Leaf S model comes with a 3.6 KW onboard charger, with an option to upgrade it to a 6.6KW charger.
Nissan also added that the 3.6KW charger needs 7 hours to charge from a 240-volt Level 2 AC. However, the 6.6KW charger needs 6 hours. Both Leaf SV and Leaf SL models come with fast charging as standard equipment.
Nissan Leaf SL comes with 16-inch steel wheels, automatic climate control, and a rearview camera. The Leaf SV comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, Nissan Connect infotainment system, 7.0 touchscreen and navigation, heated exterior mirrors, and a heated steering wheel. The highest trim, the Nissan Leaf SL is equipped with a photovoltaic solar panel, automatic LED headlights, leather seats, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
On the other hand, according to Gadget Reviews, the American auto manufacturer Chevrolet also has their Bolt model that comes with a range of just over 200 miles per charge. The car has a lower center of gravity because the battery pack is on the floor. This adds to its stability. The Bolt is equipped with 200 horsepower engine that produces 266 pound-feet of torque. It needs 6.5 seconds to go from 0-60 mph.
The vehicle is equipped with a rear view camera, Android Auto, 10.2-inch infotainment screen, Bluetooth connectivity, and optional Bose 6 speakers on higher trims. Chevrolet Bolt needs 9 hours to charge on a 240-volt outlet. There is optional DC fast charger, but it costs $750. With fast charging, it needs 1 hour to charge to 80% and 2 hours to charge to 100%.
Nissan Leaf starts at $31,545, while Chevrolet Bolt starts at $37,495. This shows that Nissan Leaf is overpriced by a lot when compared to the Bolt, who has bigger driving range.
