2017 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Recon Edition Has New Off-Road Hardware Which Takes Its Go-Anywhere Capability to Another Level

The 2017 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Recon Edition was at the Chicago Auto Show. To say goodbye to the current generation, JK Wrangler, Jeep decided to send it off with a bang with this special edition.

According to a report by Kelley Blue Book, the new Jeep Wrangler takes the "go-anywhere" capability to the next level. The Rubicon-only replacement of the current Hard Rock Package has a unique visual appeal with a wide selection of mechanical upgrades. It is available on both the 2-door and 4-door Wrangler Unlimited.

The new Rubicon Recon Edition has a meatier front axle with stronger main tubes and heavy-duty end forgings. It also features a heavy-duty cast front and rear differential covers. It is now fitted with the Wrangler's part-time 4-wheel drive system which has electronic-locking Dana 44 front/rear axles. Additionally, the new trail-ready Wrangler Rubicon sends power to each wheel via a Rock-Trac transfer case with a 4:1 low ratio.

The 2017 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Recon Edition is also equipped with standard 6-speed manual transmission and boasts an impressive 73.1:1 crawl ratio. A 5-speed automatic is also an available option for its 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine with 285 horsepower.

The new Wrangler Rubicon Recon Edition is available in Black, Bright White, Firecracker Red, Billet Silver, Gobi, Rhino, and Granite Crystal. It also comes with a Premium Sunrider soft top or optional color-matched hardtop. It also comes with an option to add 17-inch Granite Crystal-painted aluminum wheels wrapped in 32-inch BF Goodrich off-road tires.

The new Rubicon Recon has black leather seats and a multifunction steering wheel. It has an enhanced instrument cluster and a unique Electronic Vehicle Information Center. It also comes with an 8-speaker premium sound system and other tech features.

In another report by Motor Trend, the automotive website reported that the new Rubicon Recon now packs some upgraded off-road hardware under its boxy bodywork. It also has special-edition Jeep cosmetic upgrades on top of its extra durability. The 2-door model retails for $39,145, while a 4-door model Wrangler will cost $42,945.

The 2017 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Recon Edition is the perfect swansong for the current generation JK Wrangler. The 2018 Wrangler also looks to be very promising.
