Mercedes Launches EQ Power Sub-Brand With Planned New EV and PHEV Lineup

Mercedes announced on Friday, February 24, that it will soon be officially launching the new EQ Power sub-brand. Future hybrid and all-electric vehicles will carry the sub-brand which was first introduced at the Paris Motor Show last year.

Mercedes EQ Power launches a new range of hybrid and electric vehicles. The launch of the EQ Power sub-brand will be with the revised S-Class this coming summer. High-performance vehicle models that were developed in coordination with the company's subsidiary, AMG, will be tagged as EQ Power+ which is in line with the 2017 Formula 1 competitor W08 EQ Power+.

Currently, Formula 1 expertise is being used to create a 1000+ horsepower supercar. Production of the supercar is said to be limited to only 300 units and will most likely sport an EQ Power+ badge when it is revealed the next year. The vehicle has been officially dubbed as 'Project One'.

It was back in 2014 when the company first announced its plan to start producing hybrid and electric vehicles. The plan was in anticipation of a future where petrol-electric AMG vehicle models are mandatory.

The first official model under the EQ Power sub-brand will be the production version of the EQ Concept vehicle. The EQ Concept vehicle was also introduced at the Paris Motor Show in the previous year. It is a mid-sized electric vehicle which is claimed to have a range of 300 miles on a single charge.

The production version of the EQ Concept is set to be released in 2019. It will be the first of ten all-electric vehicles planned to be released by 2025.

The German luxury car manufacturer currently has 1 all-electric vehicle and 3 hybrids. They are the all-electric B250e BEV and the plug-in hybrid electric vehicles C350e, GLE550e, and S550e.
