Landlord Whipped Tenant With A Belt For Falling Behind On His $2,800 Rent, Ron Kronenberger Charged With Assault (VIDEO)

An Ohio landlord was charged with assault last month for whipping a tenant with a belt after the tenant fell behind on his rent according to the Associated Press.

The landlord, Ron Kronenberger, 53, is being accused after an encounter in his office at the Hometown Marketplace, a supermarket Kronenberger owns, on Jan. 22 in the village of Waynesville. He'll be appearing in court today, Feb. 22 according to a police report.

The tenant was reportedly behind on his $2,800 rent when he was asked to meet with Kronenberger.

"If you're going to act like a child, I'm going to treat you like one," Kronenberger was quoted in the police report as telling the tenant before striking him four times with a belt. The belt left "little marks" on the tenant.

Kronenberger struck the tenant on the bare buttocks with a belt four times.

Waynesville Police Chief Gary Copeland talked to tenant, whose name has yet to be released publicly, and wanted to submit the whipping because he felt scared and just "wanted to get it over with" according to a recent police report.

"At this point, Chief left to attempt to make contact with Ron Kronenberger about the incident, in which Ron admits whipping (the victim) due to late rent payment in the amount of $2,800," Officer Daniel Bledsoe said to The Dayton Daily News.

Kronenberger is a former chamber of commerce president who was Waynesville's "Citizen of the Year" in 2006 according to The Dayton Daily News. He's yet to comment on the charges.
