The 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE will be available next year. Spy photos show a new platform, an updated interior, and better overall styling.
The vehicle was heavily disguised, but much of the design was apparent. The new SUV features a more rugged overall look with wide wheel arches and a narrow cabin.
The 2019 GLE will use the German luxury automobile maker's Modular High Architecture (MHA) platform. Carscoops reported that the next W167 GLE will not only lose some weight with this new platform but will also adopt some of the features found on the latest E-Class. These includes semi-autonomous driving technology. The new GLE will be the second Mercedes to use the MHA platform for SUVs. This platform is similar to the Modular Rear Architecture (MRA) utilized by the C-Class, E-Class, and S-Class.
Powertrain. According to a report by Motor Authority, the upcoming SUV's engine will likely borrow most of its engines from the new E-Class. This means that 6-cylinder engines are likely for the base models while a twin-turbocharged V-8 will likely be available for the GLE63 from Mercedes-AMG. Meanwhile, a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive may also be standard.
Additionally, diesel and plug-in hybrid options could be available as well. However, the diesel variants may not make it to the United States due to what happened with the Volkswagen diesel emissions scandal.
Interior. The current generation 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE is only a year old. It is in dire need of a facelift. Its interior feels outdated like the W204 C-Class. According to another report by Auto Evolution, the new GLE's interior looks a lot like the E-Class since it features two full screens.
The new SUV is said to be the sister SUV to the E-sedan. It comes as no surprise that the steering wheel looks like an optional one from the W213 E-Class.
