BMW Recalls 570,00 Vehicles In U.S., Canada, Due To Battery Cable Connector Issues, Can Cause Engine To Stall

BMW announced that they're recalling almost 570,000 vehicles in the U.S. and Canada because a battery cable connector can fail, causing engines to stall according to the Associated Press.

Approximately 504,000 of the vehicles being recalled were made in the U.S., where as 65,000 are from Canada.

The recall affects 3-Series sedans, convertibles, coupes and wagons according to BMW released in 2007 through 2011. Other vehicles included in the recall are the 1-Series coups and convertibles released in 2008 through 2012, and the Z4 sports car from 2009 through 2011.

The issue with these vehicles is that a battery cable connector can fail and cause the engines to stall according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, who posted documents on their website explaining the recall.

NHTSA also stated that the issue can cut the electrical connection between the trunk-mounted battery and the fuse box in the front of the vehicle, which results in total loss of electrical power, causing the engine to stall at anytime according to the Associated Press.

Only one minor collision in Canada has occurred due to the issue, though no one was injured.

The German automaker stated that they will replace all battery cable connectors and secure it for free at your local BMW dealership. Letters will be mailed out to owners next month.

This is hardly the first time BMW owners have gone through this issue however. In 2010, a fuel pump issue led to BMW recalling 130,000 vehicles for a similar issue according to Forbes.
