Lexus and Porsche are tied up for top place in this year’s survey. The survey looks at problems reported in the past year by original owners of vehicles. This is Lexus’ sixth year on top of the rankings.

Motor Trend reported that Lexus and Porsche are yet again on top of the rankings, with Toyota coming in third among U.S car brands. There were 35,186 owners that served as the basis of the 2017 Vehicle Dependability Study. The study was conducted from October to December 2016.

The dependability is measured by taking a look at the number of problems experienced for every 100 vehicles. A lower number means a higher score. There are 117 specific problems that are separated into eight major categories. Cars that have won awards are Ford F-15, Toyota Camry, Toyota Prius, Lexus ES, and Chevrolet Camaro. They were considered the highest-ranking vehicles when it comes to dependability in their respective segments.

According to Road Show, tech-related issues are the most common ones, and they continue to annoy the automakers. These issues led to an overall decrease in the industry’s average score. Battery failure climbed up to the top 10 list of problems this year. More than 44 percent of owners reported battery failures than last year. Audio, communication, entertainment, and navigation account for more than one-fifth of all reported problems. This is the most troublesome category for both automakers and owners.

The most reported problem covered Bluetooth pairing and voice recognition misinterpreting commands. It seems that the most commonly reported problem isn’t a mechanical one, a problem that can send a vehicle for a long and expensive repair. The most reported problem is actually a nuisance, an issue that involves subjectivity. However, these results have to be taken with a grain of salt. Technological issues are graded with the same weight as a catastrophic engine failure. But it does show that automakers have to take in-car tech seriously.
