After thirteen months, Maven, the car-sharing brand launched by General Motors, is adding an electric vehicle. This additional unit to its lineup could become the centerpiece of its operations.
According to Car And Driver, Maven’s car-sharing service has been embraced very quickly by the community. It first launched in October 2016 in Maven city in Los Angeles. Since then, its membership has grown by 56% each month.
Chevrolet Bolt was a car demanded by its customers, and it also complements the city government’s desires to promote electric vehicles and new mobility choices. So far, the city has installed over 1000 publicly available electric-vehicle charging stations.
General Motors is also working with infrastructure providers to continue to build the charging network. Maven members will have access to free charging in the EVgo Freedom Station network throughout California, but only for a limited time. Maven also provides vehicles for Lyft’s Express Drive program. It gives the ride-hailing service’s drivers access to weekly rentals of GM vehicles in select cities.
In January 2016, General Motors has invested $500 million In Lyft. That investment is a central part of the company’s plan to roll out Chevy Bolts that are used for ride-hailing purposes.
Chevrolet Bolt offers affordable long-range, fully electric 5-seater with an estimated range of 238 miles per charge. The Bolts delivered to Maven will have OnStar services, like roadside assistance, emergency response and 4G LTE Wi-Fi, and smartphone projection capabilities with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
New York Daily News reported that General Motors will add more than 100 Chevrolet Bolts in Maven’s lineup. They will focus on collaborating with cities and municipalities to co-create smart transportation solutions. The idea is to create jobs and ease parking and congestion. The service is also available in 17 cities in the U.S. and Canada. All Maven Customers can book their ride via the Maven app, with insurance and fuel included.
