Luxury carmaker Maserati recently announced a recall order for 329 of the 2014 Ghibli and Quattroporte. The Maserati recall stems from concerns over a possible faulty interlock system that may not automatically engage the Park mode as intended.

In normal conditions, the luxury sedans will automatically engage Park mode when the driver's door lock is opened. However, Maserati said that the recalled vehicles may not properly engage the transmission to park even if the driver's door is already opened, hence the recall.

If the cars do not properly engage the Park mode, there is a big possibility that there will be an unintended movement of the vehicle which in turn could cause injury drivers and passengers as they try to exit the vehicle. Moreover, this condition can also damage properties and injure other people, when the car is positioned in a steep location.

According to Car Advice, Maserati determined that 329 vehicle units have to be recalled in Australia, and another 49 units in New Zealand. Maserati said that it has not received any report of injury or fatality that is connected to the issue. Maserati has yet to comment whether it will issue the recall order in other regions.

Earlier this month, a Maserati recall was also ordered covering 39,381 Ghibli, Levante and Quattroporte, according to Auto Week. The reason behind the recall stems from two issues that could increase fire risk on affected cars.

The first issue was determined to affect all three cars with model years 2014 until 2017. Maserati said that the wiring harness located under the front power seats can rub as a result of seat adjustments. This creates a risk for short-circuit and fire.

The carmaker later added that the affected vehicles may have been produced with an incorrect wiring harness layout. The recall is scheduled to commence on February 28.
